Should I notify the post office of my new address ?

For many, when we think about moving or making our changes of address, we think about notifying the post office. However, the post office does not keep a centralized database of neighbourhood addresses. Therefore, updating your address with the post office when you move is not mandatory.

That said, if you’re afraid of losing mail after you move, Canada Post offers a solution that allows you to forward your mail to your new address temporarily. You can subscribe to this mail forwarding service by going to your local post office or directly from the Canada Post website. Please note that charges apply to this service.

Also, keep in mind that redirecting your mail to your new home address is a temporary service: you will still need to make your changes of address with your different service providers or organizations. You can change your address yourself or use the change of address service offered by MovingWaldo for a simplified process.
